The best quote of our trip came in Dyersville, Iowa, the tiny town noted only for "Field of Dreams" filming there in 1989. When told we were moving cross-country to Ohio, a friendly, local lady sympathized: "Aw, too bad you have to drive 'cross Indiana next! All they've got o'er there is 'ours of cornfields!" #andwhatexactlydoyouhavehereagain #smalltownamerica
While in "town" this morning, I asked the local, hair-salon ladies for their car-cleaning recommendations. They kindly gave me two (turns out, there are only two options, period) - "Duke's Detailing" and "The Spit Shine." Naturally, neither has a website, or listed business hours; but, one does have an (inactive) Facebook page.
Another generous citizen carried our stroller down the long set of stairs, a pipe-smoking gentleman with a muddy, mammoth poodle (which Rianna thought was a sheep and "baaa'ed at) in the back of his truck cheerfully waved us ahead of him, and nobody seemed to mind the pouring rain at all. #gonnamissthis #smalltownamerica
(1) If the white-collar tire-sales office has antlers on the wall.
(2) If the white-collar tire-sales office has a vending machine full of Jack's Beef Sticks.
(3) If the entire white-collar tire-sales office staff spend ten minutes worriedly discussing Angel's surgery, before someone mentions that Angel is a cow. Bob's cow.
